Annie Leonhart

Fourth in the cadet class, Annie is a small, aloof blonde who fights with a unique martial-arts style rather than brute strength and openly despises soldierly idealism. She chooses the Military Police and a quiet posting in the interior. Her detachment conceals a devastating secret: she is the Female Titan, a hardening, intelligent shifter hunting Eren, and her exposure triggers the season's final battle in Stohess District.

Annie is one of the shortest cadets of her year, compact and wiry rather than slight, with a build shaped entirely by hand to hand training. Her pale blonde hair is pulled into a small bun with a fringe of loose strands framing her face, and her narrow blue eyes usually sit half lidded in an expression of tired indifference. A distinctive hooked nose and thin mouth give her a severe profile. Off duty she favours a white hooded jacket, and she constantly turns a silver ring on her finger. Her Titan form stands around fourteen metres, muscular and pale, with exposed sinew across the jaw and limbs.

Annie presents herself as detached, sarcastic and allergic to effort, mocking the idealism of soldiers who talk about dying for humanity while openly admitting she wants only to survive. Beneath that armour she is far more conflicted than her peers realise: she sneers at the idea of comradeship yet keeps drifting back to the same handful of people, teaches her fighting style to a classmate she claims not to care about, and hesitates at moments when hesitation is fatal. She distrusts group loyalty of any kind, calling herself weak and unable to become a proper soldier. When cornered she becomes coldly efficient, and the mask of boredom cracks into something close to grief.

Annie was raised outside the walls in a society that used people of her bloodline as weapons, and her father drilled her in a brutal martial art from early childhood, pushing her past exhaustion until she could break grown men. Selected as a candidate warrior, she was given the power of a shifting Titan and sent on a mission with two other children her age to infiltrate the walled nation and destroy it from inside. She entered the territory as a refugee, buried her origins, and enlisted with the 104th Training Corps. The parting words of her father, an apology and a plea that she come home alive, became the private reason she kept fighting.

1. 104th Cadet Corps

   Flashbacks show Annie as an aloof trainee who scorns drills and mocks patriotic speeches, yet finishes fourth in her class. She teaches Eren the leg based grappling style her father taught her, dismissing it as pointless, and quietly argues that soldiers only pretend to be brave. Her closeness to two other outsider cadets is treated as ordinary friendship.

2. Battle of Trost

   During the Titan breach Annie survives the slaughter of the supply line and helps in the counterattack to seal the gate, though she is careful never to stand out. Afterwards she chooses the Military Police over the Survey Corps, arguing openly that she wants comfort and safety, and takes an interior posting in the capital.

3. The Female Titan and the 57th Expedition

   A hardened, intelligent Titan appears during the Survey Corps expedition beyond the walls, slaughtering scouts and driving straight for the formation's centre in search of Eren. She wipes out most of an elite squad, endures capture in Erwin's trap, and escapes, leaving the expedition shattered and its survivors certain the enemy is a human being in uniform.

4. Clash in Stohess

   Armin's deduction and a ring shaped blade mark her as the suspect, and she is lured into an underground passage beneath the capital. Refusing to submit, she transforms in a crowded street and runs for the wall while Eren pursues her through the district. Beaten and cornered, she seals herself inside a crystal that no weapon can cut.

Eren Yeager

Classmate and sparring partner

She teaches him her fighting style and treats him with rare warmth, then becomes the single greatest threat to his life. Their final confrontation is as much a personal reckoning as a battle between two Titans.

Reiner Braun

Fellow outsider

One of only two people who know what she truly is. He nags her about attitude and duty, she needles him in return, and their bickering hides a shared burden neither can discuss in front of anyone else.

Bertholdt Hoover

Fellow outsider

Quiet, awkward and openly fond of her, he is the one who worries when she goes silent. Their friendship is built on a secret that makes ordinary affection impossible to express in front of their classmates.

Armin Arlert

Classmate and eventual accuser

Armin reads her hesitations and small mercies as clues, assembling the case against her. He also gambles that her reluctance to harm him personally is real, using that instinct to lure her into the trap.

He broke her body into a weapon and later begged her forgiveness, promising to stand by her whatever the world said. That memory is the private oath she carries through every atrocity she commits.
